Nothing is small

One of the earliest lessons I learnt in product management is that nothing is small.

You might think that the feature you’ve dreamt up is a quick win and therefore, it shouldn’t take more than few hours or a week for your team to build. But this thought likely reflects your limited understanding of the impact points in your product than you think.

Things might look small when you’ve just started building and you have no customers. But in most other situations, you’re better off forcing yourself to think about all the ways in which your “small” idea is going to touch the rest of your product, and planning for whatever you’re able to foresee.

Remember: reality has a surprising amount of detail. Much more than what we typically anticipate.
